Job Purpose
Responsible for the accurate, timely and compliant execution of client and approved proprietary securities transactions on the Dar es Salaam Stock Exchange (DSE) and other authorised markets. The role combines trade execution, market monitoring, client servicing and disciplined risk and regulatory compliance to deliver best execution, safeguard client assets and support the firm’s profitability at all times in accordance with the Capital Markets and Securities Act, CMSA regulations, the DSE Rules and CSDR procedures.
Key Duties & Responsibilities
- Trade execution: Execute buy/sell orders for listed equities, Government and corporate bonds and other approved securities on the DSE Automated Trading System (ATS), applying best-execution and fair order-handling principles.
- Settlement & records: Verify trade details, allocations and contract notes; coordinate timely settlement through the CSDR; and maintain accurate, time-stamped order and trade records per DSE/CMSA requirements.
- Market analysis: Monitor DSE, regional and global markets, macroeconomic and interest-rate trends and corporate actions; analyse liquidity and price action to inform execution and, with Research, generate trade ideas.
- Client service: Receive client instructions, explain market conditions, and support Relationship Managers with suitability-aligned execution consistent with each client’s objectives and risk profile.
- Risk management: Trade within client mandates and approved risk/position limits; monitor market, counterparty and operational exposures; and escalate breaches or unusual activity promptly.
- Compliance: Ensure full compliance with CMSA/DSE/CSDR rules and APeF policies, including personal-account dealing, conflicts of interest, information barriers, AML/CFT and KYC, and the Personal Data Protection Act, 2022.
- Reporting & collaboration: Prepare trading, exposure and compliance reports; liaise with Operations & Settlement, Compliance/GRC, Finance and Research; and report errors and incidents per the firm’s risk framework.
Qualifications & Experience
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Economics, Accounting, Business Administration or related field; Master’s/MBA an added advantage.
- Licensing (mandatory): Valid CMSA licence as a Dealer’s Representative and DSE Authorised Dealing Representative certification. CFA/ACI an advantage.
- Experience: Minimum three (3) years in securities trading/dealing or a related capital-markets role; hands-on DSE ATS experience strongly preferred.
Knowledge, Skills & Competencies
- Strong knowledge of Tanzanian capital markets, equities and fixed-income instruments, and the CMSA/DSE/CSDR framework; proficiency in financial analysis and market research.
- Sound grasp of the trade lifecycle, settlement and risk controls; fast, accurate decision-making under pressure.
- High integrity and a strong compliance mindset; excellent communication, numeracy and client-management skills; strong attention to detail and proficiency with trading/market-data systems and MS Office.
